Comprehensive Eye Examinations
An eye examination at Visions Optical is more than just an eyeglasses check. In addition to determining the correct prescription for your new eyeglasses, the exam includes a complete eye health evaluation with screening for diseases like glaucoma and macular degeneration. At the end of your exam, Dr. Dewart will discuss the results and your options for vision correction including eyeglasses, contact lenses, and laser vision correction. If you have a medical eye problem like an infection or pink eye, Dr. Dewart will diagnose the condition and prescribe the appropriate medication.
Visions Optical is proud to feature the Optomap Retinal Exam as part of your comprehensive examination. With the Optomap retinal examination, the majority of the retina at the back of the eye is visible in one single image. For many patients, selecting the Optomap means that dilation of the pupils may be avoided while still allowing for an excellent view of the back of the eye.
Contact Lenses
Contact lenses offer an alternative to glasses. During your comprehensive eye examination Dr. Dewart will discuss contact lens options appropriate for your prescription and lifestyle. Dr. Dewart prescribes silicone hydrogel soft contact lenses, daily disposable, toric lenses to correct astigmatism, colored contact lenses to enhance or change your eye color and bifocal soft contact lenses for her patients. Gas permeable contact lenses including multifocal contact lenses for those patients needing help with their near vision are available through Visions Optical. Dr. Dewart has the expertise to successfully prescribe contact lenses for patients wanting freedom from their eyeglasses. For your convenience, contact lenses may be delivered to you at no additional cost with a minimum order.
We feature CIBA Vision® contact lenses including Focus Dailies® one-day contact lenses, Air Optix Night and Day, a revolutionary silicone hydrogel continuous wear contact lens that may be worn up to 30 nights, Air Optix Aqua, Air Optix for Astigmatism and FreshLook cosmetic contact lenses to change your eye color.
We also feature the Bausch and Lomb PureVision silicone hydrogel contact lenses. PureVision lenses are available for most prescriptions including astigmatism or bifocals.

Personal service is important when selecting eyewear. Kevin works with each person to assure that their eyeglasses compliment their appearance and their lifestyle as well as serve their visual needs.
At Visions Optical, we feature the latest technology in spectacle lenses as well. Thinner lighter-weight lenses, specialized lenses for computer users, the latest designs in progressive addition lenses ("no-line bifocals"), and coatings like Teflon EasyCare by Zeiss are some of the many lens products that we offer to help you "see well and look good". Dr. Dewart and Kevin will recommend lens products based on your spectacle prescription and your lifestyle.
Children's Glasses
Children are special at Visions Optical. We carry a good selection of well-made children’s frames. Our children’s eyeglass frames, as well as those for adults, come with a one time, one-year warranty against breakage. We recommend polycarbonate lenses, the most shatter-resistant lenses available, for our younger patients.
Sunglasses
Tired of squinting when you are driving or outside on a sunny day? Did you know that ultraviolet radiation from the sun has been linked to cataracts? Sunglasses provide comfort in the sun, protect your eyes and help you look great. We feature a selection of fashionable sunwear including Serengeti. You may select non-prescription sunglasses, prescription sunwear or sunglass clips designed for your regular eyeglass frames. We also feature Transitions VI lenses that will change from clear to dark and back again. Transitions lenses are available in many lens designs. As an alternative to sunglasses we offer custom sunclips with standard or polarized lenses from E-Clips.
Laser Vision Correction
We are proud to be associated with the Indiana LASIK Center. Dr. Dewart has been providing LASIK consultations, pre-operative evaluations, and post-operative care since 1998. Today many patients are enjoying the advantages of laser vision correction, including Lynda, our assistant. NearVision CK, designed to improve near vision for patients over age 40 with good distance vision needing help for reading, is new option for patients who want to get rid of their reading glasses.
Eye Infections, Eye Injuries, Dry Eyes
Our office provides emergency services for eye infections and eye injuries. Please call our office at 260-432-4060 any time; after hours you will be instructed on how to contact Dr. Dewart.
Our staff will work with you to schedule an appointment as soon as possible. State of the art microscopes allow us to examine the front surface of the eye and facial areas around the eye for infection or injury. After assessing the extent of the injury or infection a treatment plan will be formulated and explained to you. Treatment may include medications and supportive care. Follow-up visits to monitor your recovery will be scheduled as needed.
Dry Eyes: Symptoms include scratchy eyes, burning, mild redness and gritty feeling eyes. Oral medications, reading, computer tasks and dry environments may aggravate marginally dry eyes. Dry eyes can be diagnosed by using dyes to observe tear patterns, evaluation of the amount of tears on the front of the eye and from review of your symptoms. Treatment may include artificial tears; eye drops for treating allergies; and/or punctal plugs inserted in the tear drainage canals.
Eye Diseases; Cataracts, Glaucoma, Diabetes
Cataracts: The natural lens in the eye gradually becomes less clear as we get older. When opacities develop in the lens and the lens gets too hazy, vision will be impaired. Our office can diagnose and manage cataract care. When the cataract affects the vision to the extent that you cannot read or see distant objects comfortably, we will recommend cataract surgery. Our office co-manages with cataract specialists that are proven experts in cataract surgery. Cataract surgery can provide you with a bright new world of vision.
Glaucoma: Glaucoma gradually destroys the optic nerve tissue in the back of the eye. The greatest danger of glaucoma stems from the fact that the disease is painless and without obvious symptoms until significant damage has occurred. The most common cause is from pressure being too high inside the eye, but vascular disease and other diseases can also cause glaucoma. We always monitor for glaucoma during routine eye examinations. Tests include checking the pressure of the eye, screening for peripheral vision defects and analyzing the appearance of the optic nerve. If you are diagnosed with glaucoma, we typically prescribe medications that lower the eye pressure. Most forms of glaucoma are successfully treated with eye drops. Laser treatments and eye surgery are secondary treatments that offer alternative ways to treat more advanced glaucoma.
Diabetes: Diabetic patients should have a dilated retinal examination each year. Laser treatments have proven to slow the progression of retinal eye disease for many patients. Diabetes often stimulates the growth of new blood vessels in the back of the eye, which ultimately leak and damage the retina. If this condition is discovered early, laser treatment can destroy these vessels. We have the latest instruments used to detect changes in the back of the eye. If we discover advancing diabetic eye disease that can be treated or needs further evaluation, we will refer you for consultation and further testing to a board certified retinal specialist.
Surgery Co-Management
For patients needing surgery for cataracts, Dr. Dewart will work with local ophthalmologists to provide care before and after the surgical procedure. Additionally, we have working arrangements established with other specialized eye care doctors to manage such things are retinal detachments, retinal tears and hemmorhages.
Methods of Payment and Insurance
We accept cash, checks, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and Care Credit. A deposit is required before eyeglasses or contact lenses are ordered. Payment in full is expected at dispensing. We accept Vision Service Plan® (VSP®), many EyeMed plans, including Blue View Vision, Medicare and other vision insurance plans. Please mention your vision insurance when scheduling an appointment so that we may obtain necessary authorization before your visit.
